Important Information To Consider When Moving To The USA

The shipper must have arrived in the US by the time the goods arrive, failure to comply will result in clearance delays and the likelihood of additional charges at the port.

Most people will be granted duty-free entry for their household goods and effects if their removal goods consist of used household effects that have been in the owner’s use and possession abroad for at least one year and will keep on being used by the owner in their new residence.

VACIS Exams occur in approximately 90% of all household goods and personal effects sea shipments imported to US ports. VACIS charges may vary by terminal and port location, and rates range from USD $200-$500 per container. East Coast ports and terminals tend to be higher than West and Gulf Coast ports and terminals.

Intensive Exams occur in approximately 20% of all household goods and personal effects shipments imported through US ports. Intensive exam charges vary greatly based on the intensity of the exam and the size of the shipment. Charges range from $500-$3000 for sea shipments. However, we have seen (rarely) exam charges go as high as $5000 for very large shipments.
